Marengo man dies in accident near Grinnell

August 3, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A Marengo man died this morning in an accident about seven miles east of Grinnell. The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 5:30 in the morning, 63-year-old Russell Earl Grout was northbound on Highway 63 about one mile north of Highway six in a Manatt’s dry cement hauler when the truck left the roadway.

It traveled about 100 yards, went up an embankment and crashed into a tree. The truck apparently burst into flames and the cab became detached and rolled or slid down the embankment. Grout was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. The truck cab was destroyed and the trailer was heavily damaged and is likely totaled.
