Luther College student chosen as a Rhodes Scholar

November 19, 2012 By Matt Kelley

About 80 college students from around the world are picked each year as Rhodes Scholars and this year, one was from Iowa. Georgianna Whiteley is a senior at Luther College in Decorah. The 21-year-old Minnesota native is majoring in chemistry and minoring in biology.

Her goal is to become a doctor who’ll deal with global health issues. Whiteley spent time in Tanzania her sophomore year, studying one of the east African country’s native cultures. As a Rhodes Scholar, she’ll study at Oxford University in England.

The program was launched 110 years ago by a British philanthropist.
