Cedar Rapids officers involved in fatal shooting are identified

December 6, 2012 By Dar Danielson

Cedar Rapids police have released the names of the officers involved in a fatal shooting Tuesday morning. A news release from the Cedar Rapids department identifies the officers are Mitchell Magill and Adrienne Phelps.

Both have been on the force four years. The department says the two were attempting to stop a car driven by 27-year-old Desirae Daniel on November 4th at about 2:30 a.m. Daniel eventually stopped, and the department says she displayed a gun and was shot by the officers.

She died at a local hospital. Police say there was no camera in the squad car  at the time of the stop. The department has not released any other details of the shooting and says once the state DCI completes its investigation, a report will be forwarded to the Linn County Attorney for review.
