Two Burlington men charged in fatal Mississippi boating accident

Two Burlington men were charged today by the Des Moines County Attorney in a fatal boating accident on the Mississippi River May 19th.

The Department of Natural Resources says 21-year-old Josephn Schier Junior and 22-year-old Douglas Metcalf were each charged with one count of boating while intoxicated causing death, and four counts of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the accident near Burlington.

Schier and Metcalf were operating jon boats loaded with people that collided in the early morning. Four people from Burlington died in the accident, 21-year-old Mathew House, 22-year-old Jacob Boyd, 20-year-old Caitlyn Atchley and 21-year-old Blake Eakins.
