Iowa State’s long layoff ends with trip to Kansas

January 8, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg says his team is looking forward to restarting its season. The Cyclones are 10-3. They’ve played only one game in the last three weeks.

“You like some practice time to get ready, but this is over the top,” Hoiberg said, with a laugh, during a recent conference call with reporters.

According to Hoiberg, this quirk in the schedule is hard on the team heading into conference play.

“It would have been nice to schedule another game in there,” Hoiberg said. “The concern, when you have that big of a layoff, is that you’re going to come out and play with a little bit of rust.”‘

The Cyclones open the Big 12 race at Kansas on Wednesday night.
