Davenport police break up burglary ring

January 21, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

After 35 break-ins at businesses in the area, Davenport police say they’ve broken up a commercial burglary ring with three arrests. Cops executed search warrants and conducted interviews, and that resulted in the arrest early Sunday of three Davenport men.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon Alan Barnett, 18-year-old Shane Dean Smeltzer and 19-year-old Joshua Lane Hayes face multiple felony charges. That’s in connection with commercial burglaries in Davenport, Eldridge and Scott County dating back to late November. Police say they recovered a .45 caliber handgun and property or evidence from the break-ins.

The investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed.
