Hawkeyes go without a winner at Big Ten wrestling tourney

March 11, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Penn state left no doubt about who has the dominant wrestling program in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions crowned four individual champions to roll up 151 points and a third straight team title at the Big Ten championships in Champaign, Illinois.

It capped off a disastrous championship round for the Iowa Hawkeyes who saw all four finalists — Matt Mcdonough, Tony Ramos, Mark Ballweg and Mike Evans — lost as the Hawks slipped to third in the team race behind runner up Minnesota.

It marked the first time since 2006 Iowa failed to crown at least one individual champion and its only the third time that has happened since 1969.
