Two dead in Lyon County accident

March 15, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Two Sioux Falls residents were killed last night when a semi and an SUV collided in northwest Iowa. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports about 5:25 P.M., Randy L. Gergen of Granville was northbound on Highway 9, driving a 2007 Peterbilt semi-tractor and trailer near the entrance for Grand Falls Casino bear Larchwood.

Charles J. Rice of Sioux Falls was southbound in a 2000 GMC Yukon. Rice began turning into the Grand Falls Casino on the state line and drove in front of the semi. The semi was unable to stop and struck the Yukon.

Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch. Rice and his passenger, Kristin Ann Loudermilk, also of Sioux Falls, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Gergen did not report any injuries.
