Theft charge leads to Sioux City North band director’s resignation

The Sioux City North High School band director has resigned after being charged with stealing over $50,000 worth of musical instruments from the school. Thirty-nine-year-old Kevin Massey was charged wtih first-degree theft last month.

Investigators allege Massey took the musical instruments from the school and pawned them to pay off gambling debts. Massey has agreed to pay $5,000 in restitution to the school district. Police have recovered over 60 of the instruments.

Massey has a preliminary hearing on the theft charge on April 15th in Woodbury County Court.
