Iowa defensive coordinator says they are improved over last year

October 14, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker believes the Hawkeyes are a much better team heading into the second half of this season. A year ago, the Hawkeyes opened 4-2 before dropping their final six games. They find themselves 4-2, again, as they get set to visit fourth ranked Ohio State.

“Right now we’re 11th in the country in defense, we’re eighth in rushing,” Parker says. “I don’t think we’ve given up a rush over 20 yards yet with our first teamers.” He says they have given up some big pass plays, but is you average them out, they are well below the big plays they gave up last year.

Parker says the defense is as a lot of areas that are better including their depth and he says the defense has a chemistry and is playing at a high level.
