Two dead in Sioux City shooting

November 8, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

UPDATE 3 p.m.:

Two people were killed and one injured in an overnight shooting on the west side of Sioux City. Police Chief Doug Young says they were called to 507 West 27th Street just before midnight. He says they found three victims on arrival, all of which had suffered gunshot wounds from what is believed to be a handgun, and one also suffered knife wounds.

“A female victim was dead at the scene, the two other male victims  transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center where one was pronounced dead, the third was sent  to surgery and is expected to survive,” Young said. The chief said several other people were home at the time of the shooting, including two children.

“This incident is believed to have started with a physical altercation  between the suspect and one of the victims and then escalated into a shooting. We also believe that drugs were involved in this incident,” Young says. The suspect, 26-year-old Juan Antonio Nino-Estrada, was shot in the leg and fled the scene. He was quickly located and arrested at his girlfriend’s home and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. The names of the victims have not been released.
