Iowa rolls to easy win over Northwestern 93-67

January 10, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes scored the first ten points of the game and cruised to a 93-67 win over Northwestern in Iowa City. With coach Fran McCaffery serving a one game suspension assistant coach Kirk Speraw directed the team. “Very proud of our guys in their focus and their approach all week long, and it continued during the 40 minutes tonight,” Speraw says.

Aaron White had 18 points and ten rebounds while Melsahn Basabe added 16 points and ten boards as the Hawks improve to 2-1 in the Big Ten and 13-3 overall. Speraw says the daily approach and practices and everything else did not change leading up to the game. “The only difference tonight is they heard my voice. I tried to send the same message we always send and I thought the guys  did a good job of responding throughout the game,” according to Speraw.

The Hawkeyes passed the ball well and had 22 assists in the game. Speraw says that is something they talked about in the pregame is to get back to moving the ball more. Iowa visits third ranked Ohio State on Sunday.

Northwestern is 7-9 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten.
