Tyson beef plant in Denison to stay open

Hundreds of jobs that were feared lost aren’t being eliminated after all. A major beef packing plant in western Iowa that was slated for closure is being saved. Officials with Tyson Foods say they’ve decided to keep the Denison operation running, preserving 400 jobs.

Reasons for the turn-around include lower cattle prices and the closure of a few competing plants. Tyson had first said two years ago it would shutter the Denison plant after spending $90-million expanding and modernizing its facility in Dakota City, Nebraska.
