Governor issues more disaster proclamations related to storms

June 20, 2014 By Dar Danielson

Governor Terry Branstad has added more counties to the disaster list. The governor issued disaster proclamations today for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Franklin, Hancock, Ida, Kossuth, Osceola, Palo Alto, Sac, Woodbury and Wright counties. The action clears the way for state resources be used respond to and recover from severe storms and flooding.

The governor had earlier issue disaster proclamations for Cedar, Lyon, Plymouth, Pocahontas and Sioux counties. The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD) says it has requested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) conduct damage assessments in 14 counties impacted by the June 13 and continuing storms.

The damage assessments, which will primarily cover public infrastructure, will be conducted jointly with HSEMD and local officials. Results of the damage assessments could be used to determine if a request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration is warranted.
