A 14-game winning streak has propelled the Benton softball team to the top of the rankings. Coach Eric Stenberg’s team has won 14 straight games, is top ranked in class 3A and takes a 21-4 record into tonight’s doubleheader at Western Dubuque. “I think we really picked things up offensively, our kids are having much better approaches at the plate and swinging at better pitches. And I think that’s the key to our winning streak right now,” Stenberg says.

And there have been several impressive wins during the streak, including victories over Iowa City Regina and Waterloo East last weekend. He says playing good teams only makes you better and they look forward to playing the tougher teams.

As the calendar gets ready to flip to July that means the tournament trail is approaching and Stenberg says the Bobcats have a difficult road to get to the state tournament. He says they you never know how those games are going to go against quality teams and they have to play their best every night.
