DCI investigates shooting involving Johnson County deputy

October 14, 2014 By Dar Danielson

DCI-shieldThe Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into a shooting of a man by a Johnson County deputy. DCI Special Agent in Charge, Richard Rahn, says the deputies were attempting to locate a man last night who was suicidal.

The deputies and Iowa State Troopers found 32-year-old Bradley Wayne McNeese near Swisher. McNeese then fled and Rahn says the chase ended with an exchange of gunfire. “There were gunshots and we’re just currently looking into the whole situation…it’s still in its infancy stages, so I won’t be able to say to much to you,” Rahn says.

McNeese was hit and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals. Rahn doesn’t think McNeese’s injuries are life-threatening. “I don’t believe that they are. I know that he was in surgery last night, but it is my understanding he is out of surgery at this point. So, I would say that they are not life-threatening,” according to Rahn.

He says the deputies were not hit. “No one else was injured,” Rahn says. One deputy has been placed on administrative leave under the department’s standard policy for a shooting while the investigation is ongoing.
