Morningside women win NAIA national title

March 18, 2015 By Dar Danielson

The Morningside women won the NAIA National Championship Tuesday 59-57 over Concordia University as Lexi Ackerman made two free throws with two seconds left.

The top ranked Mustangs trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, and didn’t take the lead until there was 12:17 left. They fell behind again and had to force a shot clock violation and hit the late game free throws to win.

The win in Sioux City avenges their only loss in the 37-1 season. It is the fourth national championship for Morningside, which won titles in 2004, 2005, and 2009.
