Woman shot to death in rural Lacona home

June 21, 2015 By Matt Kelley

Sheriff-patrolAuthorities are calling the death of a south-central Iowa woman a homicide.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call Friday afternoon on the report of an unresponsive woman inside a rural home near Lacona.

The victim, identified as 68-year-old Shirley Carter, died from a gunshot. Investigators have said the preliminary autopsy and other evidence points to a crime, but they’ve not provided any information on a possible suspect in the case.
