A key to success for the Iowa offense this season may rest with the development of two sophomore tackles. Webster City native Boone Myers and Ike Boettger from Cedar Falls have been called on to replace Outland Trophy winner Brandon Scherff and Andrew Donnal.

Iowa offensive line coach Brian Ferentz says both players just need experience.

“At one time Andrew Donnal had not started a game and at one time Brandon Scherff had not started a game”, said Ferentz. “Everyone has got to start somewhere.”

Originally recruited as a tight end, Boettger gained 60 pounds to make the transition to right tackle.

“I’ve definitely noticed a difference between spring and now”, said Boettger. “I feel more comfortable with everything on the field and stuff is starting to slow down.”

Myers and Boettger will debut as starting tackles on September fifth when the Hawkeyes host Illinois State.
