Audit finds misuse of city fuel card by former Dunkerton police chief

October 15, 2015 By Dar Danielson

State-auditor-signA report from the state auditor finds improper used of city money by a former Dunkerton city employee. The state audit found $2,700 of improper use of city funds by former Dunkerton police chief Tim Shultz.

The report says most of the funds were purchases of gas for Shutlz’s personal vehicle using the city’s fuel card while he was not on duty.

The purchases happened between January of 2013 and August of 2014, and the report says auditors were unable to tell if there were additional improper purchases due to a lack of records.

The audit report makes recommendations for tightening the city’s oversight and it has been forwarded to the Black Hawk County Attorney’s office.
