UPDATE: Teenager’s body recovered after canoe capsizes on Coralville Reservoir

January 4, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Recovery teams have pulled the body of a teenager from Coralville Reservoir.

Seventeen-year-old Tanner Wymer of rural Iowa City was in a canoe with 51-year-old Michael Felton of Solon on Sunday afternoon when their canoe capsized. The older man was able to swim to shore and bystanders pulled him out of the water. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals for treatment.

Search teams had difficulty locating the teenager’s body due to debris and ice in Coralville Reservoir.

Johnson County officials say the two men were out on the lake “to photograph a nearby residence” when wind, waves and the water current cause the canoe to capsize. Neither Felton or Wymer was wearing a life jacket and there were no floatation devices in the canoe.
