Amber Alert issued for teen girl leads to arrest of Hampton man

July 5, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Police car lightsA Hampton man was arrested in Webster City on Monday afternoon after an Amber Alert was issued in Franklin County for a 17-year-old girl who was taken against her will.

Further information indicated the subject was in the possession of a firearm and had threatened to use the firearm against the girl and himself. A Webster City police officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the one listed in the Amber Alert on Fair Meadow Drive in Webster City.

The vehicle stopped in the Van Diest Medical Center parking lot at which time the officer made contact with the occupants. The vehicle was determined to be the one from the Amber Alert. The driver, 20-year-old Austin Wade Ross, was taken into custody without incident. The 17-year-old female was safe and returned to her parents.

Ross was transported back to Hampton by the Iowa State Patrol where he was taken to the Franklin County Jail. Ross later posted bond and was released after he was charged with driving while revoked and driving while suspended.
