Hawkeyes prepare for new season and new challenge

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says every season is a new challenge but if this year’s version of the Hawkeyes can learn to prepare like last year’s team it could be another successful season.

The Hawkeyes take a number-17 national ranking into Saturday’s opener against Miami of Ohio after a banner 2015 campaign in which they finished 12-0 in the regular season.

“Last year’s team really passed the test”, said Ferentz. “Not that we were perfect but they did not get distracted and if we can learn from that group, just that portion alone, we will give ourselves a chance to be successful.”

The Hawkeyes will be heavily favored against a Miami team that struggled to a 3-9 record in 2015 but Ferentz says season openers can be an adventure.

“We have looked really good on opening days some days and other times not so much. My message to the team is it is more about us getting ready and feeling good about the way we are preparing.”
