The father of Patty Judge, the Democrat candidate for Iowa’s U.S. Senate, died this morning in Albia.

Lester Poole was a World War II veteran and a banker in Albia. Judge’s campaign issued a brief statement, describing Mr. Poole as a “loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Judge and Republican Senator Chuck Grassley are scheduled to debate one another in Sioux City Wednesday evening and Judge plans to attend that event, according to her campaign.

Senator Grassley issued a written statement this afternoon. “Barbara and I send our sincere condolences to Patty Judge and her family on the passing of her father,” Grassley said. “They are in our thoughts and prayers.”
