Remains in field likely those of Plainfield woman reported missing July 5

October 20, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Sheriff-patrolThe remains of a Northeast Iowa woman who went missing over 3 months ago, have apparently been found by a local farmer.

According to the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, human remains have been located near a residence north of Horton. The body was found at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by a local farmer who was out harvesting a corn field.

An investigation of the scene where the remains were found strongly suggests it is the body of 76-year-old Cloris Mehmen of rural Plainfield, who was reported missing on July 5. The remains were located about a half-mile from Mehmen’s home, where she was last seen. An autopsy has been ordered to make a positive identification and determine the cause of death. Foul play’s not suspected.

The Bremer County Sheriff notes that Mehmen’s family has been notified.
