Shooting in Freeport ruled a murder-suicide

October 20, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Sheriff-vehicle-300x191A shooting in the northeast Iowa town of Freeport Sunday that left two people dead has been ruled a murder-suicide.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department says the investigation concluded that 55-year-old Chad Freilinger of Decorah shot 41-year-old Sarah Szabo of Decorah multiple times and then shot himself. Both Freilinger and Szabo were found dead at the scene shortly after 6:30 Sunday evening.

The Sheriff’s Office says the two were in a relationship and had just recently broken up.
