Fremont County Sheriff identifies Hamburg 14-year-old killed in ATV accident

October 25, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Sheriff-patrolSouthwest Iowa authorities have released the name of a Hamburg teenager killed in an ATV accident Monday evening.

Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope says 14-year-old Cameron Owen died after deputies found him unresponsive in a bean field with numerous injuries, three miles east of Hamburg around 6:30 p.m. Aistrope says Owen lost control of the ATV and was ejected. He was wearing a helmet.

Owen was transported to George C. Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg where he was pronounced dead. The accident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. Shenandoah EMS, rescue units from Hamburg, Sidney, and Riverton, as well as LifeNet responded to the call. LifeNet is an air ambulance service.
