Johnston teen hit and killed while riding his bike

A teenage bicyclist was hit by a pickup and killed Tuesday evening north of Des Moines in the suburb of Johnston.

He’s identified as 13-year-old Ali Hashim of Johnston. Police say Hashim had been riding along busy Merle Hay Road with two friends when he was hit.

The pickup driver stayed at the scene and talked with police. He was not charged.
