An eastern Iowa man who’s been on the run for more than a year will soon be back in Iowa to face homicide charges.

Davenport police say 41-year-old Alex Uthoff of Davenport was driving a motorcycle recklessly and drunk when he crashed in May of last year, killing his passenger, 31-year-old Samantha Burke.

Investigators say Uthoff fled the country before he could be arrested and was later found living in Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula.

This week, the U.S. Marshals Service, working with Mexican authorities, arrested Uthoff without incident.

A news release from the Marshals says he was deported from Mexico and is now jailed in Chicago, pending extradition to Davenport for trial.
