Iowa should be in for a wet week, as forecasters say some areas of the state may see up a half-foot of rainfall.
National Weather Service meteorologist Alex Vorst says the skies will be gray most — if not all — of the week ahead.
“We have a line of showers and thunderstorms moving into southwestern Iowa this morning,” Vorst says. “That will be the first round of rainfall, followed by a break this afternoon, then a redevelopment with strong-to-severe showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.”
A flood watch is posted through Tuesday morning for 30 counties across southwest, central and northeast Iowa.
Vorst says, “Depending on where you are and depending on where the heaviest rainfall does set up, it does look like anywhere from two to upwards of five to six inches is possible across all of Iowa.”
While we had unseasonable highs in the 90s earlier this month, the forecast calls for highs this week mostly in the 60s and 70s, though parts of southern Iowa may see a few days in the low 80s.
