The Woodbury County Attorney plans another trial in a Sioux City cold case that ended with the jury unable to reach a decision.
County Attorney James Loomis says he will re-try 63-year-old Thomas Popp in the 1983 shooting death of Terry McCauley of Sioux City. The judge declared a mistrial last month after jurors remained deadlocked on a verdict.
Popp’s attorney filed a motion last week asking for a change of venue if there is a new trial, saying the extensive media coverage would not allow for a fair trial in Woodbury County. No decisions have been made on that motion or a new trial date.
