Shakespeare wrote about a “pound of flesh,” but there’s nothing flowery about the mysterious chunks of flesh being found in the water system in the western Iowa town of Carroll. The problem first surfaced about a month ago when officials discovered a large chunk of meaty, fatty tissue inside a water line. Three more chunks were found last week after workers were sent out to check on clogged water lines. The chunks of flesh have been sent to a state lab for identification. Public works officials say the water is safe to drink, though more chlorine is being added as a precaution. It’s thought the flesh was from some animal that found its way into the pipes.
