Several residents of the north-central Iowa town of Manly are not happy with a new business that brings a “woman-ly” entertainment atmosphere. Manly residents this week met with city and Worth County officials in an attempt to block “Big Earl’s Goldmine” from locating an exotic dance club in their town. Worth County Attorney Jeffery Greve says the site, a former bar which closed earlier this spring, is not included in the countywide zoning plan, which leaves county officials with little control over the area. Supervisor Dennis May says the board will consider an ordinance that would help control the strip club, but there is nothing they can do to stop the business from opening. The club would be a “juice bar”, meaning that it would not have a license to sell alcohol.
