Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says quarterback Drew Tate has made strides during spring workouts. Tate and Jason Manson are among the players vying to replace Nathan Chandler as the Hawkeyes starting signal caller. Ferentz says both guys look real comfortable. Last year as a true freshman Tate served as Chandler’s backup. He says Tate’s not lacking for confidence. He says that’s a good thing, but also it can be something you have to watch. Ferentz says Tate’s more comfortable than he was in the fall Ferentz says the competition at the position has been spirited this spring. He says if anything they’ve been a little too brazen in throwing the ball, and says they won’t be able to get away with that in the fall. The Hawks conclude spring drills Saturday afternoon in Kinnick Stadium.
