Republican legislative leaders and Iowa’s Democratic Governor will meet privately Monday morning to discuss tax reform. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says the sit-down session is another sign of the new working relationship between the previously-warring parties. Iverson says “not only are the Governor and the Legislature in the same book” right now, “they’re on the same page,” according to Iverson. The Republican Leader says there’s an “enormous amount of stuff going on behind the scenes” and Monday’s private meeting is just another example. Iverson says he’ll enter the session with an open mind, and will listen to ideas, but can’t say he has any expectations at this point. An Iowa State University professor will be the “facilitator” in Monday’s session, and 15 lawmakers, including the leaders of the Legislature’s tax-writing committees, will participate.
