Council Bluffs officials this morning will unveil the route the Olympic Torch will take when it’s run through their city one week from today. Coordinator Cati DeMasi says 25 runners will carry the torch in Council Bluffs, each running two-tenths of a mile. Seven are from the Council Bluffs area, and the rest are from elsewhere in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and South Dakota. After the torch is run through Council Bluffs, it’ll be taken across the Missouri River Bridge for another longer segment through Omaha, Nebraska. They’ll have 81 runners in Omaha, from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, both Dakotas, Illinois and Colorado. While temperatures are traditionally frigid in Iowa during January, DeMasi says she’s not concerned about being hit by a bitter cold blizzard. She says the runners are so excited to take part, they won’t freeze, especially given the relatively short amount of time they’ll each be carrying the torch. The Olympic flame is on its way to Salt Lake City, Utah. The carefully housed burning torch will be driven from Kansas City, Missouri, to Council Bluffs on January 10th. Elsewhere, sled dogs, snowmobiles, boats, planes, trains and automobiles will all be use to carry the torch.
