An eastern Iowa condiment factory is in the pink over a new shade of topping for hot dogs, burgers and fries. The green ketchup produced at the Heinz U-S-A plant in Muscatine sold ten million bottles in seven months, so production began this week on purple ketchup. The new color is designated “Funky Purple” and Heinz hopes it’ll fly off store shelves as fast as “Blastin’ Green.” The Muscatine factory is the only one making the new colored condiment at the rate of 180-thousand bottles a day. It should be in supermarkets next month.
