One of the Iowa delegates at the Republican National Convention has a unique perspective on the speech-laden week. Ray Dearin of Ames has been an Iowa State University communications professor for 35 years, and he’s critiquing the speeches in Philadelphia.Dearin, who attended Republican Conventions in 1980, ’84, ’92 and ’96, says in this year’s convention, white males haven’t dominated the podium. Women and minorities are getting major time in the spotlight. He says it’s intended to show that voters from all backgrounds are welcome in theRepublican party.Dearin says Bush backers have been not-so-subtle in portraying their candidate as the “Anti-Clinton.”This evening, Dearin will be on the B-B-C, offering his analysis of George W. Bush’s speech.
