Governor Tom Vilsack met today for the first time with the members of thegroup he is asking to create a strategic plan for Iowa for the next century.The 37 Iowans are part of a planning council that are putting together aplan that is being called “Iowa 2010: The state of our future.” Councilmembers include leaders from business, education and government, a countysheriff, a farmer and an elementary teacher. Vilsack says they had far morepeople apply to be on the council than they could accept. He says the grouphas a tough task.He says the group will get all the input they can from around the state.Vilsack says this plan has one thing that will guarantee that it isn’t puton the shelf to gather dust once it’s completed — his support.The group will begin meeting later this month to start its work.
