Iowa motorists may be noticing new signs on the horizon — billboards that aim to prevent people from taking up the cigarette habit. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller says the billboards feature pro-health messages in spaces that used to carry cigarette advertisements. The Attorney General’s office is taking over the 30 billboards statewide as part of the settlement with tobacco companies. Miller says many of the billboards will be in state control for months, until the tobacco company’s lease on them expires. The 30 billboards are going up in the following cities: Bettendorf, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Dubuque, Davenport, Des Moines, Waterloo, Council Bluffs, Ottumwa, Fort Dodge, Spencer, Creston, Greenfield, Marshalltown, Mason City and Sioux City.
