A republican from Council Bluffs has been elected Today is National Worker’s Memorial Day. Iowa Labor Commissioner ByronNorton says it’s a day designed to raise awareness.The A-F-L-C-I-O started the memorial eleven years ago to remember theOccupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. A record low number of workersdied in 1998, but Norton says the 45 deaths are still too many.Norton says the accidents were mostly preventable. He says today is a goodday for all businesses to re-think workplace policies.Memorials are being held across the state today.
