About 25-hundred Iowa soldiers will receive additional benefits as a resultof legislation Governor Vilsack signed into law today.The law makes soldiers and sailors who served in 1980s and ’90s conflicts inLebanon, Grenada, Panama and the Persian Gulf eligible for Iowa veterans’benefits. As a result, the state will boost veterans’ benefits by about aquarter of a million dollars in the next two years.The law also boosts the “veteran’s preference” on test scores for certainjobs, such as postal employees and government workers.
