Farmers would get federal checks when they’re hurt by international tradeunder an amendment being introduced today by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. Hesays the trade bill currently offers aid to workers who lose their jobs toforeign trade, so Grassley says farmers deserve the same compensation.A U-S-D-A report finds the proposal would bring 100-million dollars in’trade adjustment assistance’ to pork producers for imbalances last year.Grassley is introducing a second amendment to the trade bill offeringincentives to countries that agree to ban child labor.It would give the president the authoritiy to grant child-friendly nationsup to a 50-percent tariff rate cut on exports.Grassley is chair of the Senate International Trade Subcommittee.
