As festivities get underway at the “Field of Dreams” in Dyersville, Senator Tom Harkin plans to introduce a proclamation today honoring Shoeless Joe Jackson. Harkin says the former pro baseball player should be honored for his outstanding achievements in the sport. Jackson was banned from the sport after being implicated in the throwing of the 1919 World Series. Harkin recently wrote the commissioner of Major League Baseball, urging Jackson’s reinstatement in the sport so he can be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Celebrations in Dyersville this weekend revolve around Jackson and the baseball diamond featured in the 1989 movie.
