The 1999 U-S Senior Open begins today at the Des Moines Golf and CountryClub. One-hundred-56 competitors tee off today for the first of four rounds andBruce Fleisher is one of the favorites this week. During his career on theP-G-A Tour, Fleisher posted just one victory back in 1991. But as a rookieon the Senior Tour, he has posted four wins this season and has earnedbetter than one-point-three million dollars. Fleisher says the course willbe a good one to decide the Open championship.Fleisher says making pars will be the key.Bob Duval (do-vall) has one victory on the Senior Tour this season and saysthe course will be demanding.Duval says the scores posted beginning today will depend a lot upon pinplacement.Golf carts are used on the Senior Tour but won’t in the Open because it is aU-S-G-A championship event. Arnold Palmer says that is the way competitivegolf should be played.Palmer says while carts have helped expand the game of golf, they have noplace in a championship.
