A ribbon-cutting ceremony today will officially open Dubuque County’s new,enhanced 9-1-1 system. Dubuque County Chief Deputy Ken Runde says the heartof the three-million dollar communications system is at the law enforcementcenter.The enhanced 9-1-1 system will enable dispatchers to quickly identify wherea caller is located and more rapidly send the proper type of help. Rundesays the three-million-dollar price tag encompasses several categories.Runde says Dubuque County studied several frequency options in order toprovide improved emergency communication services throughout the county.The new system will serve every public safety agency in Dubuque County inaddition to local hospitals, the regional airport and the county conservationboard’s park system. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for 3:30 p-m.
