They’re saying anything but “humbug” in Humboldt and Dakota City today. The north central Iowa community is opening its “Holiday Wonderland” this afternoon, featuring attractions like: The Hillside Spectacular, Candy Cane Lane and The Tree Walk.Fred Meyer is tourism director for the holiday spectacular. He says another big attraction is the Kiwanis Christmasland — a 50-thousand dollar extravaganza of ten animated holiday scenes. While many communities have light shows, Meyer says The Hillside Spectacular is unmatched.Neighborhoods in the Humboldt County community are also themed and open for viewing. One is called Candy Cane Lane and features many thousands of red and white candy canes lining the streets and homes.Meyer says The Holiday Wonderland draws in buses and carloads of people from across Iowa and several surrounding states. There is NO admission charge to the attractions — donations are encouraged.
