Iowa is hoping to share the success of other states in using a new approach to get so-called dead-beat moms and dads to make their child support payments. A revised federal law allows states to give information on dead-beat parents to banks which can search records for a match. Nancy Thoma directs the Iowa Child Support system and says Iowa’s in the final stages of implementing the program.Thoma hopes to start seeing results in Iowa by April.Thoma believes the financial institution data match will benefit Iowa children and families. So far, the approach has tracked a billion dollars in the accounts of deadbeat parents nationwide. Thoma warns that finding the money is the first step, collecting it is another.
