The Governor is raising concerns about property tax changes republicanspropose. A “cap” or freeze on city and county property taxes was in placein the mid-1990s. Republicans, this time around, want to limit property taxincreases to something akin to the rate of inflation. Governor Tom Vilsacksays the proposal doesn’t guarantee lower property taxes, however.Senator Jeff Angelo, a republican from Creston, says theRepublican plan will bring a dramatic shift in property tax collections.A statehouse hearing late this afternoon will focus on the proposal.
