A Senator who’s been pressing to make English Iowa’s official language was rebuffed yesterday when he tried to get action on an “English-Only” bill. Senator Steve King, a republican from Kiron, asked the Senate State Government committee to pass the bill, but his motion failed. Kingsays he’s lived to fight another day, though. He says the United States is the only nation in the world that doesn’t have and official language. He says 25 state have passed “English-Only”King says the law would create a standard “communications currency” for the state. There is another bill still eligible for Senate debate which would allow King to pursue his cause.
